Coffee Break with Grant Clayton: Kitesurfing Scotland

Ready for a dose of kitesurfing inspiration? We're chatting with Grant Clayton, owner of Kitesurf Scotland!

Q: Grant, how did your journey into kitesurfing instruction start?

I started Kitesurfing at 10 years old with my best mate Tom - we got some lessons from 2 of the only instructors around. I then moved onto the BKSA Circuit back in the day and competed. When I was 21, I moved to Australia and managed schools out there, then moving around to the Caribbean. 6 years ago I took over Kitesurf Scotland and have been here ever since!

Q: Kitesurf Scotland sounds epic. What makes your school unique?

We only offer 1:1 sessions, that means the full focus is on you (or you and your friend). We are a full-time kiteschool so we are open and teaching all year round! The best bit is where we are located - the wind works in all directions, apart from a very rare easterly - so we’ll always have you up and flying! Our beaches are safe enough for beginners but the wind can be strong enough that it suits the intermediate too.

Q: Can you share your favorite kitesurfing spots, Grant? Maybe one local and one a bit further afield?

It absolutely has to be Troon South Beach as our great local spot. My second would be Safety Bay Western Australia, every kitesurfer will know about it!!
